Between 1881 and 1885 artist William V. Herancourt drew ten panoramic maps of cities in the Upper Midwest. This bird's-eye view of Minneapolis in 1885, with the Mississippi riverfront in the foreground, captures the city during its Golden Age, when flour milling and the lumber trade were making the economy boom. Panoramic maps were popular in the nineteenth century as records of America's growing cities.
